A creamy, fresh avocado dip balanced with sweet honey, bright lime, and fragrant orange. This quick no-cook dip is delicious with fresh fruit, vegetables, crackers, or toasted bread.

Ingredients

  • 2 large ripe avocados
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon finely grated lime zest
  • 1 teaspoon finely grated orange zest
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Pinch of freshly ground black pepper
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes, optional
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro or mint, optional

Instructions

  1. Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium bowl.
  2. Add the fresh lime juice, orange juice, lime zest, and orange zest to the avocado.
  3. Drizzle the honey over the avocado mixture.
  4. Add the olive oil, salt, black pepper, and optional cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes.
  5. For a rustic texture, mash everything thoroughly with a fork until mostly smooth. For an extra-creamy dip, transfer the ingredients to a food processor and blend until silky.
  6. Fold in the chopped cilantro or mint, if using.
  7. Taste and adjust the honey, citrus juice, and salt as needed. Add more lime for brightness or a small additional drizzle of honey to balance particularly tart citrus.
  8. Transfer to a serving bowl and garnish with additional citrus zest, honey, or chopped herbs if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Choose ripe avocados that yield slightly to gentle pressure for the smoothest, creamiest texture.
  • For a creamier variation, blend in a few tablespoons of plain Greek yogurt.
  • Finely chopped mango or pineapple can be added for a tropical variation.
  • For additional heat, add minced jalapeño, cayenne pepper, or extra red pepper flakes.
  • For a savory version, reduce the honey and add cilantro, minced garlic, and additional salt.
  • For a sweeter fruit dip, increase the honey and orange juice slightly and use fresh mint.
  • Maple syrup can replace the honey if desired.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container with plastic wrap pressed directly against the surface and refrigerate for up to 1 to 2 days.
  • Freezing and reheating are not recommended. Serve chilled or allow the dip to stand briefly at room temperature before serving.
