Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup strong brewed coffee or 1 to 2 shots espresso
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar or sweetener of choice
  • ¼ teaspoon peppermint extract
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream for topping (optional)
  • Crushed peppermint candies or candy canes for garnish (optional)
  • Chocolate shavings for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the milk, cocoa powder, and sugar.
  2. Heat over medium heat, whisking until the cocoa and sugar are fully dissolved.
  3. Continue heating until the mixture is hot but not boiling.
  4. Remove from the heat and stir in the peppermint extract and vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the brewed coffee or espresso into a large mug.
  6. Add the hot chocolate mixture and stir well.
  7. Top with whipped cream if desired.
