Grilled Calamari is a light and flavorful seafood dish featuring tender squid marinated with lemon, garlic, and herbs before being quickly grilled to perfection. It’s an easy Mediterranean-inspired recipe that’s perfect as an appetizer or light main course.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds (680 g) cleaned calamari, tubes and tentacles
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Pat the calamari dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  2. Whisk together the olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, lemon zest, oregano, parsley, salt, and black pepper in a large bowl.
  3. Add the calamari to the marinade, toss to coat evenly, and let it marinate for 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. Preheat a grill or grill pan over high heat and lightly oil the grates.
  5. Grill the calamari for 2 to 3 minutes per side, just until opaque and lightly charred.
  6. Transfer the grilled calamari to a serving platter.
  7. Garnish with additional chopped parsley and serve immediately with fresh lemon wedges.

Notes

  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
  • Substitute fresh thyme or basil for parsley if desired.
  • Drizzle with balsamic glaze before serving for extra flavor.
  • Add smoked paprika to the marinade for a subtle smoky taste.
  • Serve over mixed greens or alongside grilled vegetables for a complete meal.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheat briefly in a hot skillet to avoid overcooking.
