Grapefruit Green Smoothie is a refreshing blend of tart grapefruit, sweet banana, pineapple, and fresh spinach. It makes a bright, creamy drink that is quick to prepare for breakfast or a snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 large grapefruit, peeled and segmented
  • 1 cup fresh baby spinach
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1/2 cup coconut water or cold water
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, optional
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup, optional
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes, optional

Instructions

  1. Peel the grapefruit, remove as much of the bitter white pith as possible, separate it into segments, and remove any seeds.
  2. Add the grapefruit and coconut water or cold water to the blender first.
  3. Add the spinach, banana, frozen pineapple, and fresh ginger, if using.
  4. Blend on high for 1–2 minutes, or until the spinach is completely broken down and the smoothie is creamy and evenly combined.
  5. Check the consistency. Add more coconut water or cold water for a thinner smoothie, or blend in ice cubes for a thicker, colder texture.
  6. Taste and add honey or maple syrup if additional sweetness is desired, then blend briefly to combine.
  7. Pour into glasses and serve immediately while cold and fresh.

Notes

  • Using frozen pineapple or frozen banana creates a thicker, colder smoothie without requiring much ice.
  • For extra creaminess, add Greek yogurt or avocado.
  • Kale can replace spinach; remove the tough stems and blend thoroughly.
  • For a tropical variation, add mango for additional sweetness and flavor.
  • Chia seeds, ground flaxseed, or hemp seeds can be added for a more substantial smoothie.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours and shake or stir well before drinking.
  • Grapefruit can interact with certain prescription and over-the-counter medications. Check medication labeling or consult a pharmacist or healthcare professional if unsure whether grapefruit is appropriate.
