Garlic Knots are soft, fluffy bread knots brushed with rich garlic butter and finished with fresh parsley and Parmesan cheese. They make a delicious side dish or appetizer that’s perfect with pasta, pizza, soups, or salads.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl and let sit for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in the olive oil, flour, and salt until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces, roll each into an 8-inch rope, and tie into a knot.
  7. Arrange the knots on the prepared baking sheet, cover lightly, and let rise for another 20 minutes.
  8. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. While the knots bake, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, parsley, and optional garlic powder.
  10. Brush the warm garlic knots generously with the garlic butter and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese before serving.

Notes

  • Top with shredded mozzarella before baking for cheesy garlic knots.
  • Add Italian seasoning, oregano, or red pepper flakes to the garlic butter for extra flavor.
  • Fresh basil can be substituted for parsley.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
  • Freeze cooled garlic knots for up to 3 months.
  • Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 5 to 8 minutes or microwave for 15 to 20 seconds, then brush with extra melted butter if desired.
