Frozen Steak in the Air Fryer is a quick and easy way to cook a juicy, flavorful steak without thawing. The air fryer creates a beautifully browned exterior while keeping the inside tender and cooked to your preferred doneness.

Ingredients

  • 2 frozen steaks (ribeye, sirloin, New York strip, or filet mignon)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Fresh rosemary or thyme (optional)
  • 2 garlic cloves (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3–5 minutes if your model recommends preheating.
  2. Remove all packaging from the frozen steaks and place them in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  3. Cook for 7 minutes.
  4. Flip the steaks and lightly brush both sides with olive oil.
  5. Season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika if using.
  6. Continue cooking, flipping halfway through the remaining time, until the steaks reach your desired internal temperature: Rare 120–125°F (49–52°C), Medium-Rare 130–135°F (54–57°C), Medium 140–145°F (60–63°C), Medium-Well 150–155°F (66–68°C), or Well Done 160°F (71°C) or higher.
  7. Transfer the steaks to a plate and top with butter, fresh herbs, and garlic if desired.
  8. Let the steaks rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Use an instant-read thermometer for the most accurate results.
  • Cooking time will vary depending on steak thickness and your air fryer model.
  • Montreal steak seasoning or Cajun seasoning makes a flavorful alternative.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze cooked steak for up to 3 months.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, asparagus, or a fresh salad.
