Ingredients

  • 1 block extra-firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Optional green onions or sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  2. Cut the tofu into cubes or rectangles.
  3. In a bowl, toss the tofu with soy sauce.
  4. Sprinkle cornstarch, garlic powder, and black pepper over the tofu and toss until evenly coated.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  6. Add the tofu in a single layer and cook for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Transfer the tofu to a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.
  8. Garnish with green onions or sesame seeds if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Add chili flakes or sriracha for a spicy variation.
  • Toss in teriyaki or garlic sauce for extra flavor.
  • Cook in an air fryer at 400°F for 15 minutes for a lighter option.
  • Coat with panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
  • Use tamari instead of soy sauce for a gluten-free version.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat in the oven, skillet, or air fryer to restore crispiness.
