Fried Tacos are crispy, golden corn tortillas filled with seasoned beef and melted cheese, then topped with fresh taco fixings. These crunchy tacos are easy to make and perfect for family dinners, parties, or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • ⅔ cup water
  • 12 corn tortillas
  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 2 cups shredded lettuce
  • 2 medium tomatoes, diced
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • Salsa, for serving

Instructions

  1. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until browned and fully cooked.
  2. Drain any excess grease and stir in the taco seasoning and water.
  3. Simmer for about 5 minutes until thickened.
  4. Warm the corn tortillas briefly to make them flexible.
  5. Place a small amount of taco meat and shredded cheddar cheese on one half of each tortilla.
  6. Fold the tortilla in half and gently press the edges together.
  7. Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  8. Carefully place the folded tacos into the hot oil and fry for 2 to 3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Transfer the tacos to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  10. Allow them to cool slightly before serving.
  11. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sour cream, and salsa.

Notes

  • Use ground chicken, turkey, or shredded beef instead of ground beef if desired.
  • Add refried beans to the filling for extra richness.
  • Use pepper Jack cheese or jalapeños for additional heat.
  • For a vegetarian version, use black beans, pinto beans, and cheese.
  • Store toppings separately and add after reheating.
  • Reheat in a 375°F oven or air fryer to restore crispness.
  • Freeze cooked tacos without toppings for up to 2 months.
