Fried Burrata with Roasted Peppers & Pesto is a rich and elegant appetizer featuring crispy golden burrata with a creamy melted center served over vibrant pesto and sweet roasted peppers. This restaurant-style dish is perfect for entertaining, special occasions, or elevated appetizers at home.

Ingredients

  • 2 burrata cheese balls
  • 1 cup roasted red peppers, sliced
  • 1/3 cup basil pesto
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish
  • Optional red pepper flakes
  • Optional balsamic glaze for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Carefully drain the burrata and pat dry gently with paper towels.
  2. Place the burrata in the freezer for about 15–20 minutes to firm slightly for easier handling.
  3. Prepare three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with Parmesan cheese, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Coat each burrata ball lightly in flour, then dip into the egg mixture, and finally coat thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture.
  5. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  6. Carefully fry the coated burrata for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate briefly to drain excess oil.
  8. Spread pesto onto a serving plate.
  9. Arrange roasted peppers over the pesto.
  10. Place the fried burrata on top.
  11. Garnish with fresh basil, optional red pepper flakes, and balsamic glaze if desired.
  12. Serve immediately while warm and creamy inside.

Notes

  • Freezing the burrata briefly helps it keep its shape during frying.
  • Panko breadcrumbs create the crispiest coating.
  • Fresh mozzarella can be substituted, though burrata provides a creamier center.
  • Add crushed pistachios to the breadcrumb mixture for extra crunch.
  • Serve with crostini, grilled bread, or roasted vegetables for a complete appetizer.
  • Fried burrata is best enjoyed immediately while hot and creamy.
