A classic French toast recipe with golden, crispy edges and a soft, custardy center, perfect for a comforting breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices bread (such as brioche or challah)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter for cooking

Instructions

  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and add butter.
  3. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, coating both sides.
  4. Place the soaked bread onto the hot skillet.
  5. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Remove from skillet and serve warm with desired toppings.

Notes

  • Use slightly stale bread for better texture.
  • Cook on medium heat to avoid burning while ensuring the inside cooks through.
  • Try brioche or challah for a richer flavor.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat in a skillet or toaster oven for best results.
  • Freeze for up to 1 month and reheat from frozen.
