Foil Packet French Toast is a warm and comforting breakfast made with cinnamon-spiced bread cubes cooked in a rich egg mixture inside sealed foil packets. Perfect for camping, grilling, or easy oven breakfasts with minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups bread cubes
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup fresh berries (optional)
  • 1 banana, sliced (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • Maple syrup for serving (optional)
  • Powdered sugar for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat a grill, campfire grate, or oven to 400°F.
  2. Cut four large sheets of heavy-duty foil and lightly grease with butter or cooking spray.
  3. Place bread cubes evenly in the center of each foil sheet.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes.
  6. Add optional toppings such as berries, banana slices, chocolate chips, or chopped nuts.
  7. Fold the foil tightly to completely seal each packet.
  8. Cook for 18 to 25 minutes, or until the egg mixture is fully set and the bread is soft with lightly crisp edges.
  9. Carefully open the packets to avoid steam.
  10. Serve warm with maple syrup or powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

  • Use slightly stale bread for the best texture and to prevent sogginess.
  • Brioche, challah, and French bread work especially well.
  • Add cream cheese cubes for a cheesecake-inspired variation.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat in the oven for the best texture and lightly crisp edges.
  • These foil packets are excellent for camping trips and outdoor breakfasts.
