Ingredients

  • 1 pound refrigerated or homemade pizza dough
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 24 pepperoni slices
  • 1/2 pound cooked Italian sausage, crumbled
  • 4 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll the pizza dough into a large rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  3. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
  4. Layer the mozzarella and provolone cheeses over the sauce.
  5. Add the pepperoni, cooked sausage, bacon, mushrooms, bell pepper, onion, and black olives.
  6. Sprinkle the filling with the Italian seasoning and garlic powder.
  7. Roll the dough tightly into a log, starting from one long side, then pinch the seams and ends to seal.
  8. Place the stromboli seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet and brush the top with the beaten egg.
  9. Cut a few small slits in the top to vent steam and sprinkle with the Parmesan cheese.
  10. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  11. Let the stromboli rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with parsley if desired and serve with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, replace the meats with spinach, zucchini, roasted peppers, and extra mushrooms.
  • Use smoked Gouda or cheddar with mozzarella for a richer flavor.
  • Add sliced jalapeños or crushed red pepper flakes for extra heat.
  • Substitute ham for bacon for a different farmhouse-inspired variation.
  • Brush the baked stromboli with garlic butter for an extra flavorful crust.
  • Assemble the stromboli up to 24 hours ahead and refrigerate before baking.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven or air fryer until the crust is crisp and heated through.
