Homemade Fajita Seasoning is a smoky, savory spice blend made with chili powder, paprika, cumin, garlic, oregano, and pantry seasonings. It comes together in just five minutes and works beautifully with chicken, steak, shrimp, and vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper, optional

Instructions

  1. Add the chili powder, paprika, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper to a small bowl.
  2. Stir or whisk thoroughly until the spices are evenly combined and no visible clumps remain.
  3. Adjust the cayenne pepper according to the desired level of heat.
  4. Use immediately or transfer the seasoning to a clean, dry, airtight spice jar.
  5. For fajitas, use about 2 tablespoons of seasoning per pound of meat or vegetables, adjusting to taste.

Notes

  • For a mild blend, omit the cayenne pepper and use mild chili powder.
  • For extra heat, increase the cayenne pepper or add crushed red pepper or chipotle chili powder.
  • For a salt-free version, omit the salt and season the finished dish separately.
  • For a smokier flavor, replace regular paprika with smoked paprika.
  • A small amount of ground coriander can be added for a subtle citrusy flavor.
  • The recipe can easily be doubled or tripled for a larger batch.
  • Store in a clean, dry, airtight container in a cool, dark place and use within about 6 months for the strongest flavor.
  • Always use a dry measuring spoon to prevent moisture from entering the spice blend.
