Eggnog Crème Brûlée is a rich and creamy holiday dessert that combines silky custard with the warm spiced flavors of traditional eggnog. Topped with a crisp caramelized sugar crust, this elegant dessert is perfect for festive gatherings and cozy winter celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups eggnog
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 5 large egg yolks
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • Extra granulated sugar for caramelized topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. In a saucepan, combine the eggnog and heavy cream over medium heat until warm but not boiling.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
  4. Slowly pour the warm eggnog mixture into the egg yolks while whisking continuously to prevent curdling.
  5. Strain the custard mixture through a fine-mesh sieve for a smooth texture.
  6. Divide the mixture evenly among ramekins.
  7. Place the ramekins into a baking dish and carefully pour hot water into the dish until it reaches halfway up the sides of the ramekins.
  8. Bake for 35–40 minutes or until the custards are set around the edges but slightly jiggly in the center.
  9. Remove the ramekins from the water bath and allow them to cool.
  10. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  11. Before serving, sprinkle a thin layer of granulated sugar over each custard.
  12. Use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until golden and crisp.
  13. Let the topping harden for 1–2 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use a water bath to ensure a silky and evenly baked custard texture.
  • Caramelize the sugar topping just before serving for the best crunch.
  • Add cinnamon or rum flavoring for a festive variation.
  • Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • A kitchen torch creates the most even caramelized sugar crust.
