Easy Skillet Neapolitan Margherita Pizza delivers classic Italian-inspired flavors with a crisp yet chewy crust, fresh mozzarella, ripe tomatoes, and fragrant basil. Made in a cast-iron skillet and finished in the oven, this homemade pizza is perfect for an easy pizza night.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb pizza dough
  • 1 tbsp olive oil, plus more for drizzling
  • All-purpose flour or semolina for dusting
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce or crushed San Marzano tomatoes
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced or torn
  • 10 fresh basil leaves
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Allow the pizza dough to come to room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat the oven to 500°F (260°C) or the highest temperature available.
  3. Place a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat and lightly coat it with olive oil.
  4. Stretch the pizza dough into a round shape slightly smaller than the skillet.
  5. Carefully place the dough into the hot skillet and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until the bottom begins to set.
  6. Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce or crushed tomatoes over the dough.
  7. Top evenly with fresh mozzarella.
  8. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven.
  9. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
  10. Remove the pizza from the oven.
  11. Top with fresh basil leaves.
  12. Drizzle with olive oil and season lightly with salt and black pepper.
  13. Slice and serve immediately.
