A cheesy, crunchy comfort-food casserole layered with seasoned ground beef, Nacho Cheese Doritos, creamy sauce, and melted cheddar. It is an easy family-style dinner with plenty of bold flavor.

Ingredients

  • Ground beef
  • Nacho Cheese Doritos, lightly crushed
  • Shredded cheddar cheese
  • Condensed cream of chicken or mushroom soup
  • Sour cream
  • Salsa
  • Taco seasoning
  • Onion, diced
  • Water
  • Optional toppings such as diced tomatoes, green onions, or extra crushed Doritos

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
  2. Add the ground beef and diced onion to a large skillet over medium heat. Cook until the beef is completely cooked, then drain the excess grease.
  3. Stir the taco seasoning and a small amount of water into the beef. Cook briefly until the seasoning evenly coats the meat.
  4. Lower the heat and stir in the condensed soup, sour cream, and salsa until creamy and evenly combined.
  5. Spread a layer of lightly crushed Doritos across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  6. Spoon the ground beef mixture evenly over the chips and sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese. Repeat the layers if desired.
  7. Finish with another light layer of crushed Doritos and shredded cheese.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the filling is hot and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Let the casserole rest for about 5 minutes before serving. Add fresh toppings as desired.

Notes

  • Use cooked shredded chicken or ground turkey instead of ground beef for a variation.
  • For extra heat, use spicy Doritos, hotter salsa, or chopped jalapeños.
  • Cheddar can be combined with Monterey Jack or a Mexican-style cheese blend for extra cheesiness.
  • Corn, black beans, diced bell peppers, or well-drained canned tomatoes can be added to the beef mixture.
  • Avoid crushing the Doritos too finely and reserve some fresh chips for topping to preserve more crunch.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for 3–4 days.
  • Reheat individual servings in the microwave or cover larger portions and warm at 350°F (175°C) until thoroughly heated.
  • For make-ahead preparation, refrigerate the cooked beef filling separately and add the Doritos shortly before baking.
