The Dirty Santa cocktail is a creamy holiday drink combining vodka, coffee liqueur, peppermint, and rich cream with a festive chocolate finish. A candy-cane rim and decadent garnishes turn it into a boozy Christmas dessert in a glass.

Ingredients

  • Vodka
  • Coffee liqueur
  • Peppermint schnapps
  • Heavy cream or half-and-half
  • Chocolate syrup
  • Ice
  • Crushed candy canes, optional
  • Whipped cream, optional
  • Chocolate shavings, optional

Instructions

  1. Chill a cocktail glass before preparing the drink.
  2. For a festive rim, spread a little chocolate syrup around the edge of the glass and dip it into finely crushed candy canes.
  3. Fill a cocktail shaker generously with ice.
  4. Add the vodka, coffee liqueur, peppermint schnapps, and heavy cream or half-and-half.
  5. Add a small drizzle of chocolate syrup for a stronger chocolate flavor if desired.
  6. Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds, until thoroughly chilled and creamy.
  7. Strain the cocktail into the prepared glass, or serve it over fresh ice in a rocks glass.
  8. Finish with optional whipped cream, chocolate shavings, crushed candy cane, or an additional drizzle of chocolate syrup.
  9. Serve immediately while cold and creamy.

Notes

  • Keep the peppermint flavor relatively subtle so it does not overpower the coffee and chocolate.
  • For an extra-chocolatey version, add more chocolate syrup or include chocolate liqueur.
  • Add a shot of chilled espresso for a stronger coffee flavor and a slightly less sweet finish.
  • For a White Christmas variation, omit the chocolate syrup and combine vanilla vodka, coffee liqueur, peppermint schnapps, and cream.
  • For a frozen Dirty Santa, blend the cocktail ingredients with ice until smooth.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, combine chilled coffee or decaf coffee with cream, chocolate syrup, and peppermint syrup.
  • Peppermint syrup can replace peppermint schnapps for less alcohol and additional sweetness.
  • The vodka, coffee liqueur, and peppermint schnapps can be combined ahead and refrigerated until needed.
  • Add the cream and shake each serving with fresh ice immediately before serving for the best texture.
  • Crushed candy canes, whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and chocolate syrup all make festive garnishes.
