Detox Island Tropical Green Smoothie blends leafy spinach with sweet mango, pineapple, banana, ginger, and fresh citrus for a vibrant tropical drink. It is a quick and refreshing way to enjoy fruit and greens for breakfast or a snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh spinach
  • 1 cup frozen mango chunks
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple chunks
  • 1 medium banana
  • 1/2-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime or lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 cups coconut water or cold water
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes, optional
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds, optional

Instructions

  1. Wash the spinach thoroughly and add it to a high-speed blender.
  2. Pour in the coconut water or cold water and briefly blend with the spinach to help create a smooth green base.
  3. Add the frozen mango, frozen pineapple, and banana.
  4. Add the peeled fresh ginger, starting with a small amount for a balanced flavor.
  5. Add the fresh lime or lemon juice.
  6. Add the optional chia seeds and ice cubes if desired. Less ice may be needed when using frozen mango and pineapple.
  7. Blend on high speed until completely smooth and creamy.
  8. Check the consistency and add more coconut water if the smoothie is too thick. For a thicker smoothie, add additional frozen fruit.
  9. Taste and adjust the amount of ginger or citrus juice as desired.
  10. Pour into glasses and serve immediately while cold and fresh.

Notes

  • The word detox describes the style of this smoothie and is not intended as a medical claim. The body’s liver and kidneys naturally perform detoxification functions.
  • For a creamier smoothie, add avocado or additional banana.
  • Use coconut water for a light tropical flavor or light coconut milk for a richer, creamier variation.
  • Kale can replace some or all of the spinach. Remove tough kale stems and blend the greens thoroughly with the liquid before adding the remaining ingredients.
  • Papaya, passion fruit, or orange can be added for additional tropical flavor.
  • For a more substantial breakfast smoothie, add chia seeds, ground flaxseed, or rolled oats.
  • For a banana-free version, use additional frozen mango or pineapple, or add avocado for thickness.
  • The smoothie is best served immediately but can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 24 hours. Shake or stir thoroughly before serving.
  • Leftover smoothie can be frozen in ice cube trays and later blended with coconut water or another preferred liquid.
