These Crispy Onion Rings Chips are coated in a savory seasoned breadcrumb mixture and baked or air fried until perfectly golden and crunchy. They’re an easy appetizer or snack with a crispy exterior, tender onion center, and plenty of flavor.

Ingredients

  • 2 large sweet onions
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray or 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) or the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel the onions, slice them into 1/4-inch thick rings, and separate the rings.
  3. Whisk together the eggs and milk in a shallow bowl.
  4. In another shallow bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Dip each onion ring into the egg mixture, allowing the excess to drip off.
  6. Coat each onion ring thoroughly in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently so the coating adheres.
  7. Arrange the coated onion rings in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet or in the air fryer basket.
  8. Lightly spray with cooking spray or brush with olive oil.
  9. Bake for 18–22 minutes, flipping halfway through, or air fry for 10–12 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  10. Let cool for a couple of minutes before serving with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Add cayenne pepper or chili powder for a spicy variation.
  • Use crushed cornflakes instead of panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
  • Substitute Parmesan with sharp cheddar cheese for a richer flavor.
  • Season with Cajun seasoning or ranch seasoning after cooking for added flavor.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in a 375°F oven or air fryer for 3–5 minutes.
