Crispy Air Fryer Tofu is a healthy, easy-to-make dish featuring tofu with a crunchy exterior and tender inside, made without deep frying using an air fryer for less oil and mess.

Ingredients

  1. 14 ounces firm or extra-firm tofu, pressed and cut into 1-inch cubes
  2. 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
  3. 1 tablespoon olive oil or sesame oil
  4. 1 tablespoon cornstarch or arrowroot powder
  5. 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  6. 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika or chili powder (optional)
  7. Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

Press tofu for at least 15 minutes to remove excess moisture.

  1. Cut tofu into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a medium bowl, toss tofu cubes with soy sauce, oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Sprinkle cornstarch over tofu and toss gently to coat evenly.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 5 minutes.
  5. Arrange tofu cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket, avoiding overcrowding.
  6. Air fry for 15-20 minutes, shaking or flipping tofu halfway through cooking for even crispiness.
  7. Remove and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce or incorporate into recipes.

Notes

  1. Marinate tofu in barbecue sauce or teriyaki before coating with cornstarch.
  2. Add five-spice powder or curry powder for different flavor profiles.
  3. Toss cooked tofu with sesame seeds for added texture.
  4. Use nutritional yeast in place of some cornstarch for a cheesy flavor.
  5. Serve tofu over salads, rice bowls, or in wraps.
