Creamy Lemon Chicken Piccata is a rich and flavorful twist on the classic Italian-American dish, featuring tender chicken cutlets simmered in a silky lemon cream sauce with garlic and capers. Bright, comforting, and elegant, it’s perfect for both weeknight dinners and special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, sliced into 4 cutlets
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp capers
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated (optional)
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Slice the chicken breasts in half horizontally to create thin cutlets.
  2. Season the chicken with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Lightly dredge each cutlet in flour, shaking off any excess.
  4. Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Cook the chicken for 4 to 5 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Transfer the chicken to a plate and keep warm.
  7. In the same skillet, add the garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  8. Pour in the chicken broth, lemon juice, and lemon zest, scraping up any browned bits from the pan.
  9. Simmer for 3 to 4 minutes to reduce slightly.
  10. Stir in the heavy cream and capers.
  11. Add the Parmesan cheese if using and stir until smooth.
  12. Return the chicken to the skillet and spoon the sauce over the top.
  13. Simmer for 2 to 3 minutes until heated through.
  14. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Fresh lemon juice provides the brightest flavor and is highly recommended.
  • Use half-and-half instead of heavy cream for a lighter sauce.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms or spinach for extra flavor and nutrition.
  • Serve over pasta, rice, mashed potatoes, or zucchini noodles.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat gently.
