Ingredients

  • 12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cranberries and discard any soft or damaged berries.
  2. Place the cranberries, sugar, orange juice, and salt in a medium saucepan.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  4. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add the orange zest and cinnamon, if using.
  6. Continue cooking until most of the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened.
  7. Remove from the heat and allow the sauce to cool.
  8. Transfer to a serving bowl or storage container and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Use frozen cranberries without thawing if fresh are unavailable.
  • For a deeper cranberry flavor, replace part of the orange juice with cranberry juice.
  • Add a pinch of ground ginger for extra warmth.
  • Stir in chopped pecans or walnuts after cooking for added texture.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 3 months.
