Ingredients

  • 2 cans baked beans
  • 1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 6 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 jalapeño, diced (optional)
  • 1/2 cup diced bell peppers (optional)
  • Hot sauce to taste (optional)
  • 1/2 lb smoked sausage, sliced (optional)
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup (optional)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F if baking.
  2. Cook the bacon in a large skillet or pot until crispy.
  3. Remove the bacon and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, cook the ground beef and onion until browned.
  5. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant.
  6. Stir in the baked beans, kidney beans, and pinto beans.
  7. Add the barbecue sauce, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, and black pepper.
  8. Crumble the cooked bacon into the mixture.
  9. Stir thoroughly until combined.
  10. Simmer on the stovetop or transfer to a baking dish and bake for 40 to 45 minutes until thick and bubbly.
  11. Serve warm with optional toppings like cheese or jalapeños.
