Cilantro Lime Shrimp Tacos are a fresh and flavorful meal featuring tender shrimp marinated in lime, garlic, and cilantro, then tucked into warm tortillas with crisp, colorful toppings. They’re perfect for quick weeknight dinners or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Juice and zest of 2 limes
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • 2 cups shredded cabbage
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1/2 cup pico de gallo
  • 1/4 cup crumbled cotija cheese (optional)
  • Lime wedges, for serving
  • Sour cream (optional)
  • Mexican crema (optional)
  • Sliced jalapeños (optional)
  • Pickled red onions (optional)
  • Extra chopped cilantro (optional)
  • Hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic, lime juice, lime zest, cilantro, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Add the shrimp and toss to coat evenly. Marinate for 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Cook the shrimp for about 2 minutes per side, or until pink and opaque.
  5. Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or directly over a gas flame until soft and lightly charred.
  6. Fill each tortilla with shredded cabbage.
  7. Top with several shrimp.
  8. Add avocado slices, pico de gallo, and cotija cheese if using.
  9. Finish with your preferred toppings and serve with fresh lime wedges.

Notes

  • Use grilled shrimp instead of pan-seared shrimp for a smoky flavor.
  • Substitute grilled fish or chicken for the shrimp if desired.
  • Add mango salsa for a sweet tropical twist.
  • Use lettuce wraps instead of tortillas for a lighter option.
  • Make a creamy cilantro-lime sauce with Greek yogurt or sour cream.
  • Add sliced radishes or green onions for extra crunch and freshness.
  • Store cooked shrimp separately from the tortillas and toppings in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat the shrimp gently and assemble the tacos just before serving for the best texture.
