Chocolate Banana Muffins are rich, moist, and packed with deep chocolate flavor and naturally sweet ripe bananas. These tender bakery-style muffins are perfect for breakfast, snacks, or dessert and are easy to customize with your favorite mix-ins.

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Baking powder
  • Baking soda
  • Salt
  • Granulated sugar
  • Brown sugar
  • Ripe bananas, mashed
  • Eggs
  • Vegetable oil or melted butter
  • Milk
  • Vanilla extract
  • Chocolate chips or chocolate chunks (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners or lightly grease the cups.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, granulated sugar, and brown sugar.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the mashed bananas, eggs, oil or melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips or chocolate chunks if using.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups, filling each about three-quarters full.
  7. Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Cool the muffins in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Use very ripe bananas with brown spots for the best flavor and moisture.
  • Frozen bananas can be used after thawing and draining excess liquid.
  • Replace half the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for a heartier muffin.
  • Add chopped walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts, or extra chocolate chips for variation.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to 1 week.
  • Freeze baked muffins for up to 3 months and reheat in the microwave for 15–20 seconds before serving.
