Chicken Doner is a juicy and flavorful street-style dish made with warmly spiced marinated chicken roasted or grilled until caramelized and tender. Ingredients

  • 2 lbs chicken thighs
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp coriander
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric

  • 6 pita breads or flatbreads

  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 1 cucumber, sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup tzatziki sauce (optional)
  • Chili sauce to taste (optional)
  • 1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese (optional)
  • 1/4 cup sliced pickles (optional)
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine Greek yogurt, olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, paprika, cumin, coriander, oregano, turmeric, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Add the chicken thighs and coat thoroughly in the marinade.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight for deeper flavor.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F or heat a grill to medium-high heat.
  5. Arrange the chicken on a baking tray or grill.
  6. Cook for 20 to 25 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked and slightly charred around the edges.
  7. Let the chicken rest for several minutes.
  8. Slice the chicken into thin strips.
  9. Warm the pita bread or flatbread.
  10. Fill the bread with chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, onion, and optional toppings.
  11. Serve immediately with sauces if desired.
