Ingredients

  • Cooked chicken, diced or shredded
  • Unsalted butter
  • Yellow onion, finely diced
  • Green bell pepper, diced
  • Mushrooms, sliced
  • Garlic, minced
  • All-purpose flour
  • Chicken broth
  • Whole milk
  • Heavy cream
  • Frozen peas
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Paprika
  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Fresh lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms and cook for 5–7 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in the garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables and cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. Gradually whisk in the chicken broth until smooth.
  6. Stir in the milk and heavy cream, then simmer for 4–5 minutes until the sauce begins to thicken.
  7. Add the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  8. Stir in the cooked chicken and frozen peas.
  9. Simmer gently for 5–7 minutes until the chicken is heated through and the sauce is thick and creamy.
  10. Add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice if desired.
  11. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve over rice, toast, biscuits, noodles, or puff pastry.
