Ingredients

  • 12 ounces pasta of choice
  • 2 cups cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
  • Reserved pasta water as needed

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente.
  2. Reserve about 1/2 cup of pasta water before draining the pasta.
  3. While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add the garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Stir in the cherry tomatoes, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
  6. Cook the tomatoes for 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they soften and begin to burst.
  7. Add the drained pasta to the skillet and toss everything together.
  8. Add a splash of reserved pasta water if needed to loosen the sauce.
  9. Stir in the Parmesan cheese and fresh basil.
  10. Serve warm with extra Parmesan and basil if desired.
