Cherry Cream Cheese Cookies are soft, tender cookies filled with sweet cherry flavor and a rich cream cheese base. They’re perfect for holidays, cookie exchanges, or an everyday homemade treat with a melt-in-your-mouth texture.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped maraschino cherries, well drained and patted dry
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips (optional)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Beat the softened butter and cream cheese together until smooth and creamy.
  3. Add the granulated sugar and mix until light and fluffy.
  4. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until a soft dough forms.
  7. Fold in the chopped maraschino cherries and white chocolate chips, if using.
  8. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie.
  9. Bake for 11 to 13 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden and the centers remain soft.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar before serving if desired.

Notes

  • Substitute dried or fresh chopped cherries, removing excess moisture before using.
  • Add 1 teaspoon almond extract for a classic cherry-almond flavor.
  • Use dark, milk, or semi-sweet chocolate chips instead of white chocolate.
  • Mix in chopped pecans or walnuts for added crunch.
  • Drizzle cooled cookies with a simple vanilla glaze for an elegant finish.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • Freeze baked cookies or unbaked dough for up to 3 months.
