Cheeseburger Gnocchi combines tender potato gnocchi, seasoned ground beef, tomatoes, and melted cheddar in a rich, creamy skillet sauce. It is an easy comfort-food dinner packed with familiar cheeseburger flavors.

Ingredients

  • Potato gnocchi
  • Ground beef
  • Yellow onion
  • Garlic
  • Olive oil
  • Tomato paste
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Beef broth
  • Heavy cream
  • Shredded cheddar cheese
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Mustard
  • Garlic powder
  • Smoked paprika
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Chopped pickles, optional
  • Green onions or fresh parsley, optional

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add a small amount of olive oil.
  2. Add the ground beef and diced onion. Cook until the beef is fully browned and the onion is tender, breaking the meat into small pieces as it cooks. Carefully drain excess grease if necessary.
  3. Add the garlic and cook briefly until fragrant.
  4. Stir in the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper until the beef is evenly coated.
  5. Add the diced tomatoes, beef broth, and gnocchi to the skillet and stir to combine.
  6. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, reduce the heat, and cover the skillet. Cook according to the gnocchi package directions, stirring occasionally, until the gnocchi is tender.
  7. Pour in the heavy cream and stir until completely incorporated into the sauce.
  8. Reduce the heat to low and gradually stir in the shredded cheddar until completely melted and the sauce is creamy.
  9. Let the Cheeseburger Gnocchi rest for about 2 minutes to allow the sauce to thicken slightly.
  10. Serve warm and garnish with chopped pickles, green onions, or fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Check the gnocchi package directions to determine whether it can cook directly in the sauce or requires separate boiling.
  • For Bacon Cheeseburger Gnocchi, stir cooked crumbled bacon into the finished dish and reserve some for garnish.
  • For additional heat, add crushed red pepper flakes, diced jalapeño, cayenne pepper, or Pepper Jack cheese.
  • For a mushroom variation, sauté sliced mushrooms with the onion before cooking the beef.
  • For extra cheese, increase the cheddar or combine it with Monterey Jack.
  • Add cheese over low heat and stir gradually for a smooth, creamy sauce.
  • For a loaded cheeseburger variation, garnish with chopped pickles, diced tomatoes, green onions, and additional shredded cheese.
  • Ground turkey can replace the ground beef. Cook ground turkey to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  • Store cooled leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days.
  • Reheat gently with a splash of beef broth or milk to loosen the sauce.
