Warm and tender apples cooked in a rich, buttery caramel-like sauce with hints of cinnamon and vanilla, perfect as a topping or cozy dessert.

Ingredients

  • 4 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter until it begins to bubble gently.
  2. Add the sliced apples and cook for 3–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they begin to soften.
  3. Sprinkle in the brown sugar and granulated sugar, stirring to coat the apples evenly as the sugars melt into a syrup.
  4. Add the cinnamon, a pinch of salt, and lemon juice.
  5. Continue cooking for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Use firm apple varieties like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji for best texture.
  • Add nutmeg or cloves for extra warm spice.
  • Stir in a splash of cream for a richer sauce.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat gently with a splash of water if needed to loosen the sauce.
