Tender apples cooked in a buttery, caramel-like sauce with warm cinnamon and vanilla flavors, perfect for a quick dessert or topping.

Ingredients

  • 4 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat until it starts to foam slightly.
  2. Add the sliced apples and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they begin to soften.
  3. Sprinkle in the brown sugar and granulated sugar, stirring to coat the apples evenly as the sugars melt into a syrup.
  4. Add the cinnamon, salt, and lemon juice.
  5. Continue cooking for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and the sauce thickens.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Use firm apples like Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Gala for best results.
  • Add nutmeg or cloves for additional warm spice.
  • Stir in a splash of cream for a richer sauce.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat gently with a splash of water if the sauce thickens too much.
