Caprese Pizza is a fresh and flavorful Italian-inspired pizza topped with creamy fresh mozzarella, juicy tomatoes, fragrant basil, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze. It’s a simple yet elegant meal that’s perfect for weeknight dinners, summer gatherings, or casual entertaining.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb pizza dough
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 2 Roma tomatoes or 1 cup cherry tomatoes, sliced
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
  • Crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.
  2. Lightly flour a work surface and stretch or roll the pizza dough into a 12-inch circle or rectangle.
  3. Transfer the dough to a parchment-lined baking sheet or pizza peel.
  4. Brush the dough lightly with olive oil and spread the minced garlic evenly over the surface.
  5. Arrange the fresh mozzarella slices evenly across the dough.
  6. Top with the sliced tomatoes and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
  7. Season with salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately top with fresh basil leaves.
  10. Drizzle with balsamic glaze and sprinkle with crushed red pepper flakes if desired.
  11. Slice and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Pat sliced tomatoes dry before adding them to the pizza to help prevent a soggy crust.
  • Add grilled chicken or prosciutto for extra protein and flavor.
  • Substitute burrata, provolone, fontina, or ricotta for a delicious variation.
  • Top with baby arugula or a drizzle of pesto after baking for added freshness.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven or air fryer for the crispiest crust.
  • Freeze the baked pizza without basil and balsamic glaze for up to 2 months.
  • Add the fresh basil after baking to preserve its flavor and vibrant color.
