Candied Pecans are sweet, crunchy pecans coated in a cinnamon-sugar glaze and baked until crisp. They make a perfect snack, holiday gift, or topping for salads, desserts, and breakfast dishes.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound pecan halves
  • 1 large egg white
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk the egg white and water until frothy.
  4. Add the pecans and toss until evenly coated.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the sugar, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg if using.
  6. Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the pecans and toss until thoroughly coated.
  7. Spread the pecans in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 35–40 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes.
  9. Remove from the oven and allow the pecans to cool completely on the baking sheet.
  10. Once cooled, break apart any clusters and serve or store.

Notes

  • Stirring during baking helps ensure even coating and prevents clumping.
  • The pecans will continue to crisp as they cool.
  • Add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a sweet-spicy variation.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
  • Use as a topping for salads, oatmeal, yogurt, or ice cream.
  • Pecan halves provide the best texture and presentation.
