Brats with sauerkraut is a hearty dish featuring juicy bratwurst cooked with tangy sauerkraut and onions. This classic combination delivers bold, comforting flavors in every bite.

Ingredients

  • bratwurst sausages
  • sauerkraut
  • onion
  • garlic
  • olive oil or butter
  • beer or broth (optional)
  • mustard (optional)
  • salt
  • black pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat oil or butter in a large pan over medium heat.
  2. Cook bratwurst until browned on all sides, then remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, cook sliced onion until soft and lightly caramelized.
  4. Add minced garlic and cook briefly.
  5. Stir in sauerkraut and mix with the onions.
  6. Add beer or broth if using and simmer briefly.
  7. Return sausages to the pan and nestle into the sauerkraut.
  8. Cover and cook on low for 10–15 minutes until sausages are fully cooked.
  9. Season with salt and pepper if needed.
  10. Serve hot with mustard if desired.
