These blueberry cream cheese buns are soft, fluffy pastries filled with a creamy, tangy center and bursts of juicy blueberries. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a sweet snack.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
  • ¾ cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  6. Punch down dough and divide into equal portions.
  7. Flatten each piece, add cream cheese filling and a few blueberries.
  8. Seal and shape into buns.
  9. Place on a lined baking tray, cover, and let rise for 20–30 minutes.
  10. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  11. Brush buns with egg wash if using.
  12. Bake for 18–22 minutes until golden brown.
  13. Cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Use frozen blueberries without thawing to avoid excess moisture.
  • Seal buns היטב to prevent filling from leaking.
  • Add lemon zest for a fresh citrus twist.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Freeze for up to 2 months and reheat before serving.
