The Black Bean Burger is a delicious, plant-based alternative to traditional beef burgers. Made with black beans, spices, and breadcrumbs, it’s a hearty and satisfying veggie burger that’s perfect for anyone looking to reduce meat consumption or try something new. It’s flavorful, healthy, and customizable to your taste.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
    1/2 cup breadcrumbs
    1/4 cup finely chopped onion
    1/4 cup grated carrot
    2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari (for gluten-free)
    1 teaspoon cumin
    1/2 teaspoon chili powder
    1 tablespoon olive oil
    Salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth with some chunks remaining for texture.
  2. Add breadcrumbs, chopped onion, grated carrot, minced garlic, soy sauce, cumin, chili powder, olive oil, and salt and pepper to the bowl. Mix until well combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into 4 patties, ensuring they are compact and even.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium heat and lightly grease with a small amount of olive oil.
  5. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Remove from the skillet and let them rest for a minute before serving.

Notes

  • Add cheese: For a cheesy twist, top your black bean burger with a slice of your favorite cheese during the last minute of cooking.
  • Spicy version: Add diced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the burger mixture for some heat.
  • Gluten-free option: Use gluten-free breadcrumbs or oat flour as a binder instead of regular breadcrumbs.
  • Veggie-packed: Add chopped spinach, zucchini, or bell peppers to the mix for extra veggies.
  • Burger toppings: Customize with avocado, lettuce, tomato, pickles, or your favorite sauce for extra flavor.
