Beef Tostadas are a quick and satisfying Mexican-inspired meal featuring crispy tostada shells layered with seasoned ground beef, refried beans, fresh vegetables, cheese, and creamy toppings. Perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 8 tostada shells
  • 1 cup refried beans, warmed
  • 2 cups shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican-blend cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • Lime wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced onion and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed.
  5. Stir in the chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and black pepper.
  6. Add the tomato sauce and simmer for 5 minutes.
  7. Warm the refried beans in a saucepan or microwave.
  8. Spread refried beans over each tostada shell.
  9. Top with the seasoned beef mixture.
  10. Add lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, olives, and cilantro.
  11. Serve immediately with lime wedges.

  • Assemble tostadas just before serving to keep them crispy.
  • Add jalapenos or hot sauce for extra heat.
  • Substitute ground turkey for a lighter version.
  • Store cooked beef separately from toppings and shells.
