BBQ Beans are a hearty and flavorful side dish loaded with smoky barbecue flavor, tender beans, and savory sweetness. Slow-cooked with bacon, onions, barbecue sauce, and seasonings, these comforting beans are perfect for cookouts, potlucks, and family dinners.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups canned baked beans
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 6 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 jalapeño, diced (optional)
  • 1/2 lb ground beef, cooked (optional)
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup (optional)
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1/2 cup diced bell peppers (optional)
  • Hot sauce to taste (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy.
  3. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving a small amount of bacon grease in the skillet.
  4. Cook the onion in the skillet until softened, about 5 minutes.
  5. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  6. In a large bowl or baking dish, combine the baked beans, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, onion mixture, and black pepper.
  7. Crumble the cooked bacon into the bean mixture.
  8. Stir until fully combined.
  9. Bake uncovered for 40 to 45 minutes until hot and bubbly.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving.
