This Banana Oatmeal Smoothie blends ripe banana and rolled oats with Greek yogurt, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla for a thick and creamy drink. It is a quick and satisfying choice for breakfast or a snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 large ripe banana, preferably frozen
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup milk or plant-based milk
  • 1/2 cup plain or vanilla Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup, optional
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds or ground flaxseed, optional
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes, optional

Instructions

  1. Add the rolled oats to a blender and blend briefly until they have a finer, flour-like texture.
  2. Pour in the milk, then add the Greek yogurt, banana, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
  3. Add the chia seeds or ground flaxseed if using.
  4. Blend on high until the oats and banana are completely incorporated and the smoothie is thick and creamy.
  5. Taste the smoothie before adding sweetener. If additional sweetness is desired, add honey or maple syrup.
  6. Blend again until the sweetener is fully incorporated.
  7. Check the consistency. Add a splash of milk if the smoothie is too thick, or add ice cubes and blend again for a colder, thicker smoothie.
  8. Pour into a glass and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Old-fashioned rolled oats work well without cooking. Quick oats can also be used, but raw steel-cut oats may produce a gritty texture.
  • For a peanut butter variation, add 1–2 tablespoons peanut butter before blending.
  • For a chocolate version, add 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder and sweeten to taste.
  • Add about 1 cup frozen strawberries, blueberries, or mixed berries for a banana berry oatmeal smoothie, adding extra milk if needed.
  • For extra protein, add a scoop of vanilla or unflavored protein powder and adjust the milk to reach the desired consistency.
  • For a dairy-free version, use plant-based milk and dairy-free yogurt, or omit the yogurt and reduce the liquid slightly.
  • A frozen banana creates a thicker, colder smoothie without requiring as much ice.
  • The smoothie is best served immediately because the oats continue to absorb liquid and thicken as they sit.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated in a tightly sealed container for up to 24 hours. Stir in additional milk and shake or blend before serving.
  • The finished smoothie can be frozen in ice cube trays and later reblended with a little milk.
