Arrabbiata sauce is a bold and spicy Italian tomato sauce made with garlic, chili flakes, and olive oil. This quick and flavorful recipe delivers a rich, vibrant kick perfect for pasta and more.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 to 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon red chili flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  3. Stir in the red chili flakes and cook briefly to release their flavor.
  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and mix well.
  5. Add salt, black pepper, and optional sugar to balance acidity.
  6. Let the sauce simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
  7. Stir in fresh parsley and adjust seasoning if needed.
  8. Serve hot over your favorite pasta or use as desired.

Notes

  • Adjust chili flakes to control the level of heat.
  • Add sautéed onions for extra depth and sweetness.
  • Use fresh basil instead of parsley for a more traditional flavor.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • If the sauce thickens too much, add a splash of water when reheating.
