Air Fryer Sweet Potato Chips are crispy, flavorful, and made with just a small amount of oil for a healthier alternative to traditional chips. These homemade chips are easy to customize and perfect for snacking, entertaining, or serving as a crunchy side dish.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Optional: 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • Optional: 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • Optional: pinch of cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel the sweet potatoes if desired.
  2. Slice the sweet potatoes into very thin rounds, about 1/8 inch thick.
  3. Place the slices in a large bowl and drizzle with olive oil.
  4. Add the salt, pepper, paprika, and any optional seasonings. Toss until evenly coated.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 340°F (170°C).
  6. Arrange the sweet potato slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overcrowding.
  7. Cook for 10 minutes, then flip the slices or shake the basket.
  8. Continue cooking for 5 to 10 more minutes until the chips are crisp and lightly browned.
  9. Remove chips as they become crispy, as thinner slices may cook faster.
  10. Allow the chips to cool for several minutes; they will continue to crisp as they cool.
  11. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use a mandoline slicer for evenly thin chips.
  • Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to ensure maximum crispness.
  • For sweet chips, sprinkle with cinnamon and a small amount of sugar after cooking.
  • Store completely cooled chips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Re-crisp chips in the air fryer at 300°F (150°C) for 2 to 3 minutes if needed.
  • Try different seasonings such as ranch, barbecue, garlic Parmesan, or chili powder.
