Ingredients
Pita bread
Olive oil
Salt
Garlic powder
Paprika
Dried oregano or Italian seasoning
Black pepper, optional
Instructions
Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) if recommended for your model.
Place the pita bread on a cutting board and cut each round into approximately 8 wedges.
For thinner chips, carefully separate each pita wedge into two layers. For thicker chips that are sturdier for dipping, leave the layers together.
Place the pita pieces in a mixing bowl and drizzle lightly with olive oil.
Sprinkle the salt, garlic powder, paprika, oregano, and optional black pepper over the pita.
Gently toss until the pita pieces are lightly and evenly coated with oil and seasonings.
Arrange the pita wedges in the air fryer basket in a mostly single layer, working in batches if necessary.
Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 4–7 minutes, shaking or turning the chips halfway through cooking.
Check frequently during the final minutes and remove the chips when they are golden and crisp around the edges.
Let the pita chips cool for several minutes so they can become even crispier.
Taste and add additional salt or seasoning if desired before serving.
Notes
Both white and whole-wheat pita bread can be used.
Separated pita layers produce thinner, crispier chips, while intact wedges make thicker chips suitable for hearty dips.
Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket so hot air can circulate around the pita pieces.
Watch thin pita chips closely near the end of cooking because they can brown quickly.
For garlic Parmesan pita chips, add finely grated Parmesan while the cooked chips are still warm.
For a spicy variation, add cayenne pepper, chili powder, or crushed red pepper.
Za’atar can replace the other seasonings for a Mediterranean-inspired variation.
For sweet pita chips, use cinnamon and sugar with a light coating of melted butter or neutral oil.
Cool completely before storing in an airtight container or sealed bag at room temperature.
If stored chips lose their crispness, air fry them briefly at a moderate temperature and let them cool again before serving.
