Crispy air fried pickles combine a tangy dill pickle center with a golden, seasoned panko coating. They make a quick appetizer or snack that’s perfect with ranch, spicy mayo, or your favorite creamy dipping sauce.

Ingredients

  • Dill pickle chips or pickle spears
  • All-purpose flour
  • Large eggs
  • Panko breadcrumbs
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Smoked paprika
  • Fine sea salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Cooking oil spray
  • Ranch dressing or another dipping sauce, for serving

Instructions

  1. Drain the pickles thoroughly and arrange them on paper towels or a clean kitchen towel. Pat them as dry as possible so the breading adheres properly and becomes crisp.
  2. Place the flour in one shallow bowl. Beat the eggs until smooth in a second bowl. In a third bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Coat each pickle lightly in flour and shake off the excess. Dip it into the beaten egg and allow the excess to drip away, then press it into the seasoned panko until evenly coated.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) if recommended for your model.
  5. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking oil if needed. Arrange the breaded pickles in a single layer with space between them, cooking in batches if necessary.
  6. Lightly spray the tops of the pickles with cooking oil. Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 7–10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until crisp and golden brown. Begin checking early because air fryer cooking times vary.
  7. Serve immediately while hot and crispy with ranch dressing, spicy mayo, garlic sauce, or another favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Dry the pickles thoroughly before breading because excess brine can prevent the coating from sticking and becoming crisp.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. Leave space around each pickle so hot air can circulate.
  • For spicy pickles, add cayenne pepper or chili powder to the panko mixture.
  • For Parmesan pickles, mix finely grated Parmesan into the seasoned breadcrumbs.
  • For a Cajun variation, season the breading with Cajun seasoning.
  • Pickle spears can be used instead of chips but may require a few additional minutes of cooking depending on their thickness.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute suitable gluten-free flour and gluten-free breadcrumbs.
  • Store cooled leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer at 375°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes for the best texture.
