Sheet Pan Pizza Dogs combine classic hot dogs with pizza sauce, melted mozzarella, pepperoni, and Italian seasonings in lightly toasted buns. This easy sheet-pan meal is ready in about 25 minutes and can be customized with favorite pizza toppings.

Ingredients

  • Hot dogs
  • Hot dog buns
  • Pizza sauce
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Sliced pepperoni
  • Grated Parmesan cheese
  • Italian seasoning
  • Garlic powder
  • Olive oil or melted butter
  • Fresh basil or parsley, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large sheet pan with parchment paper or foil.
  2. Arrange the hot dogs on the prepared sheet pan and bake for about 5 minutes to begin heating them.
  3. Carefully remove the pan from the oven and place each hot dog inside a bun.
  4. Arrange the assembled hot dogs closely together on the sheet pan so the buns remain upright while adding the toppings.
  5. Spoon pizza sauce over each hot dog, using enough for flavor without soaking the buns.
  6. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella over the sauce and arrange pepperoni slices over the cheese.
  7. Finish each pizza dog with Parmesan, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder.
  8. Lightly brush the exposed edges of the buns with olive oil or melted butter if desired.
  9. Return the sheet pan to the oven and bake for another 8 to 10 minutes, or until the hot dogs are heated through, the cheese is melted, and the buns are lightly toasted.
  10. Cool for a couple of minutes, garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Avoid using too much pizza sauce to help keep the buns from becoming soggy.
  • For Meat Lover’s Pizza Dogs, add fully cooked crumbled sausage or bacon with the pepperoni.
  • For Supreme Pizza Dogs, add finely diced bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, and sliced olives. Cook moisture-rich vegetables before adding them.
  • For extra-cheesy Pizza Dogs, add more mozzarella or combine it with provolone and Parmesan.
  • For a spicy variation, add sliced jalapeños or crushed red pepper flakes before baking.
  • For Veggie Pizza Dogs, omit the pepperoni and add cooked mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, or olives.
  • For the best texture, serve shortly after baking while the buns are lightly toasted.
  • Store cooled leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days.
  • Reheat leftovers in a 350°F (175°C) oven until thoroughly heated and the cheese is melted again.
  • For make-ahead preparation, keep the toppings separate and assemble the Pizza Dogs shortly before baking.
