Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Chocolate chips (optional)
  • Chocolate ganache (optional)
  • Chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • Chocolate shavings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together the melted butter and sugar until well combined.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Mix in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder until just combined.
  5. Spread the brownie batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  6. In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla until smooth and creamy.
  7. Carefully spread the cream cheese mixture over the brownie batter.
  8. For a marbled effect, gently swirl the two layers together with a knife if desired.
  9. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  10. Cool completely, then chill for at least 1 hour before slicing. Add optional toppings before serving if desired.
