These baked sweet potato fries are crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and seasoned with simple spices for a flavorful, healthier side dish. They pair perfectly with burgers, sandwiches, grilled chicken, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Ingredients

  • 2 large sweet potatoes, cut into fries
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for extra crispiness)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Peel the sweet potatoes if desired, then cut them into evenly sized fries.
  3. Pat the fries dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  4. Toss the fries with the cornstarch until lightly coated.
  5. Drizzle with olive oil, then add the garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Toss until evenly coated.
  6. Arrange the fries in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet without overcrowding.
  7. Bake for 15–20 minutes, flip the fries, then continue baking for another 10–15 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Let the fries rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Drying the fries well helps them become crispier.
  • Cornstarch is optional but improves crispiness.
  • Avoid overcrowding the baking sheet for even browning.
  • Add cayenne pepper for heat, Parmesan for a savory finish, or cinnamon and brown sugar for a sweeter variation.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days and reheat in the oven or air fryer for best results.
  • Baked fries can be frozen for up to 3 months and reheated directly from frozen.
