Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds flank steak or sirloin steak, thinly sliced

  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Cooked rice or noodles, for serving

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice vinegar, and the cornstarch mixed with water to make the sauce.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat.
  3. Cook the sliced beef in a single layer until browned, then transfer it to a plate.
  4. Add the sesame oil, garlic, and grated ginger to the skillet and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Add the pineapple chunks and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until lightly caramelized.
  6. Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet and simmer until thickened into a glossy glaze.
  7. Return the beef to the skillet and toss until evenly coated in the sauce.
