Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups unsweetened plant-based milk
  • 1/4 cup nutritional yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Sprinkle in the flour and whisk continuously for 1–2 minutes to form a roux.
  4. Slowly pour in the plant-based milk while whisking to prevent lumps.
  5. Continue whisking as the mixture begins to thicken.
  6. Stir in the nutritional yeast, onion powder, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper.
  7. Simmer the sauce for a few minutes until it reaches a creamy consistency.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  9. Remove from heat.
  10. Serve over cooked pasta or vegetables.
