Ingredients

  • 34 ripe tomatoes (heirloom or vine-ripened), sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1 tbsp balsamic glaze or vinegar for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Slice tomatoes and mozzarella into 1/4-inch rounds.
  2. On a serving platter, alternate and layer the tomato and mozzarella slices.
  3. Tuck basil leaves between the slices or scatter over the top.
  4. Drizzle with olive oil.
  5. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

  7. Serve immediately at room temperature.
